April 2016: Making PR Your Priority

A night at the museum? Don’t mind if we do! Except unlike a normal visit to Bower’s Museum, signature pineapple martinis and delightful appetizers filled our fists instead of a brochure. We were greeted, per usual, by a familiar face, a name tag and an open bar. The first hour was used to mingle, form connections, reminisce on the good times, and of course, satisfy our appetite. Once the cocktail hour in the Huang Sculpture Garden was nearing an end, the doors to Bower’s Great Hall opened and guests began taking their seats.

Yellow tulips in square glass vases arranged by Flawless Flowers served as the centerpieces, atop clear, acrylic tables with textured, navy runners provided by GBS Linens. This contemporary design with a pop of color was met by some history with ancient artifacts lining the walls of the museum. Leila Lewis took to the stage to discuss PR tips and the power of positivity. She stressed on the importance of working with your fellows vendors, especially when it comes to publicity. She opened the floor for questions and once that was finished, we dined on the impeccable catering of Patina Restaurant Group. Finally, we capped off the night in the back courtyard with some cappuccino from Brew Ha Ha. It was such an exciting evening, even the mummies in Bower’s new exhibit were coming to life!

A special thank you to all of our Sponsors!

March 2016: Branding You

The Estate on 2nd, winner of Trendsetter’s “Best New or Refreshed Venue”, opened their doors to us as we hosted our third meeting of the year. Upon arrival at this gorgeous location, guests were led upstairs to a cocktail hour. Music by Undercover Live set the mood as we networked and mingled over sangria and delicious paella whipped up by Jay’s Catering.

As the evening progressed, it was time to migrate downstairs where guests were welcomed by a shabby chic display of farm tables topped with rustic centerpieces involving some of our favorites for weddings, succulents. As we took our seats, we were introduced to the shining “Star” of the soiree, world-renowned wedding photographer and branding genius, Jasmine Star. This creative entrepreneur taught us a thing or two (or twenty) about “keeping it real” and how to market yourself on social media without spending a penny. With our minds enlightened and our goals set, it was time to quench our appetite. Thus, Jay’s Catering wowed us again with an extravagant buffet complete with a meat carving station. From then on, the rest of the night was ours to wine, dine and build connections with newfound friends

February 2016: Coordinator Meeting

Our thriving chapter has definitely set out to ‘Raise the Bar’ in 2016, and the gathering of Coordinator and Planners for our February Coordinator luncheon was proof of this. Guests were welcomed to a completely beautiful Spring-hued setting at Fig & Olive, with gorgeous warm and sunny weather to match. Everyone mixed and mingled and sipped on refreshing sparkling wine ‘piscines’ as the afternoon got underway. Once seated, a delicious first course salad was brought out and our esteemed panel of wedding professionals kicked off a candid conversation on how to be the best Planner and Coordinator partner possible. A great big thank you to our panel members: Jessica Claire (Jessica Claire Photography), Julie Hill (Elysium Productions), and Patty Burns (Montage Laguna Beach) moderated by Co-Director Kerrie Underhill (Platinum Weddings by Kerrie). After a lively and informative discussion our main course was devoured followed by a sweet treat. All in all a gorgeous afternoon among friends and peers!

January 2016: Networking Event

We certainly started the year off right at Pacific Hills Banquet and Catering .  Their gorgeous ballroom was dressed in the Pantone colors of the year, Rose Quartz and Serenity.  Wildflower linens really showed off these colors coordinating table linens and chivari chair covers fit for a princess.  Dave’s Flowers provided centerpieces that perfectly complimented the event’s color scheme.  The overall look was exquisite.

Instead of our traditional speed networking, we decided to mix things up with assigned seating, and networking at your table during dinner service.  This allowed each table to make multiple connections using industry related questions to spark the conversations. Everyone met new people, enjoyed great food, and ended the night with the perfect array of desserts from Drive Me Cookie.

Looking forward to a successful 2016.

December 2015: Holiday Gala and Trendsetter Awards at the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort

It should come as no surprise that the Trendsetter Awards are our favorite night of the year. Not only does it give us an excuse to dress up and dance the night away, but it gives us the opportunity to recognize those we admire most, our friends and fellow vendors.

The Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach served as the perfect venue to celebrate our unbelievable year and we extend our warmest congratulations to everyone on setting a new standard of excellence in 2015.  Kerrie Underhill along side AOO Events really out did themselves this year and we send a special thank you to them for creating such a stunning gala for us!

Once the dresses were zipped and the bow ties were straightened, guests embarked upon the lovely venue to be entranced by glitter and gold. As old friends captured pictures in the festive photo booth provided by Joy Squad, new connections formed while waiting in line for the signature drinks. Once the doors to the ballroom opened and guests were taking their seats at their stunning tables, the awards ceremony was upon us. The winners accepted their glass trophy and incredible swag bag in the center of the custom dance floor, with a custom black and gold logo by TMMPRO. Meanwhile, square wooden boxes filled with gourmet cheeseburgers and French fries were delivered to our tables and although it was hard, everyone was able to make room for the next course: Root beer floats. How could you not, right? Once all the categories were announced, Society Music and Sound got everyone to the dance floor with their renditions of both classic and new hit songs. They then handed the night over to Invisible Touch, who brought down the house in spectacular fashion. It is can definitely be said that there was no finer way to end the year. 2016, you have a lot to live up to!

October 2015: Creative Planner Day

Kendra Scott replaced “diamonds” as our so-called best friend this month, when they opened their doors to our Event Planners, allowing each person to customize their own piece of jewelry. With mimosas and pastries in hand, a convenient touch screen display at their Color Bar made it a synch to create unique pieces tailored to individual personalities and styles.

Donned with our new favorite accessories, we sashayed over to the Red O Restaurant for a patio luncheon. La Tavola Fine Linens created a chic, yet casual atmosphere with their beautiful floral linens, while The Blooming Bud perfectly complimented the affair with quaint centerpieces. Chips, salsa, and of course, margaritas also dressed the table and later, along with various entrees served as a delicious addition to our stomachs.

As if that wasn’t enough, we finished off the event with an exclusive calligraphy lesson by Jill Velez of Copper Willow. Equipped with the proper tools to learn the lovely art of decorative hand writing, everyone was able to put ink to paper and give it a try. After seeing the result, I feel some of us will just leave this art to the experts. This event was truly an experience, one that created friendships, good memories, and even some future jewelry designers or calligraphists.

September 2015: Havana Nights

Our Havana Nights soiree was a blast, ending our summer on a high note. Located in Huntington Beach, Venue by Three Petals definitely knows how to throw a celebration. The lavish area was filled with tropical colors, making this one HOT ending to our busy summer. The light up bar invited guests to try their themed drink of the evening. Cuban food stations and tray passed delights were a plenty throughout the beautiful space. Sprinkles Cupcakes served ice cream for dessert, while Urban Espresso offered wonderful coffees and espressos perfectly capping off the night.

The dance floor did not stay empty long thanks to Visions Entertainment who provided the music and lighting for the event. El Canito Cigars really played up the theme with their cigar bar stationed on the patio. If that wasn’t enough to keep you entertained, Vox DJ’s had fun props to pose with in their photo booth and Water Tree Events provided a Video Dare Booth… The question is, did you dare to try it out?

The “plus one” was a nice touch as guests loved being able to bring their significant other and friends to the party, adding a whole new level of networking. It’s no surprise that this “meeting” was one of the highest in attendance. It’s safe to say, there was no better way to conclude our summer!

A huge thank you to all of our sponsors!

August 2015 Meeting: Couples’ Panel

Sometimes Tuesdays call for an escape from your everyday routine.  Where better to find yourself than at Plaza De Magdalena.  Nestled on a quaint street in San Juan Capistrano, this venue had it all: an outdoor courtyard brought to life by Italian string lighting, a spacious and elegant dining room featuring stunning windows, and food provided by Sundried Tomato that left your taste buds begging for more!

Color and comfort were just around every corner as the areas were enhanced with romantic furniture from Sundrop Vintage.  However, textures are what really tied the night together.  Within the enchanting brick walls, tables were donned with exquisite linens, patterned glassware and burlap chargers.  These helped serve as the perfect backdrop for our Newlywed panel.

This panel wasn’t like the game show, and the couples didn’t get points for answering questions right about their spouse.  Instead they won us over with their feedback from their perspective as the Bride and Groom.  From how they chose their vendors, to what was most important on their big day, to the following up process, we were enlightened on some of the best ways to do business from start to finish.  Their stories truly served as validation that all our services are needed and memorable.  One bride was quoted as saying “my only wish is that I had more time with her [planner].”  Well our only wish is that we get to enjoy another gorgeous event by Platinum Weddings by Kerrie in the near future.  To cap the night off we all took a piece of cake home with us in the most adorable cake boxes provide by Plumeria Cake Studio.

July: Wedding Coordinator Panel

Kelsey Events put on an amazing July meeting. Breathtaking views, signature drinks, and exquisite décor certainly created a night to remember. As we set our eyes on the venue we were immediately immersed into the amazing architecture of the Santiago Canyon Estate. Casual mingling among friends poolside seamlessly turned into an elegant dinner under the stars.

Upon arrival to the upper level our eyes wandered from the enchanting table settings, to the stunning floral arrangements, to the dessert table. The lounge style seating for our speakers was perfectly put together in all white with pops of fuchsia. The tropical centerpieces with Magenta Phaleonopsis Orchids and Ti Leaves completed the event’s overall look.

It’s always inspiring to hear success stories from our peers. All three speakers are considered some of the top Event Planners in the industry.  Their success in business goes hand in hand with their love for their clients. Brooke Keegan emphasized having great relationships with your vendors to ensure a flawless event.  While Lindsay Longacre’s leaderships skills have helped her build a strong event company that offers training for aspiring event planners.  Since entering the industry in 2004 Wendy Dahl not only runs a successful event company but also coaches wedding professionals.  All of the speakers enlightened the group with their past experience and how it contributed to their achievements over the years. From making the decision to join the industry, to where they are now has been quite the journey for each of them. It was truly an honor to hear each of their stories.

Jason’s Catering provided a delectable menu that certainly did not disappoint. The hearty portions were delicious. The dessert table by Pacific Patisserie Bakery had so many choices it was hard to decide which ones to bite into. Brew Ha Ha’s gourmet coffee station with fresh beignets really hit the spot at the end of the night.

A huge thank you to all of our sponsors!

June: “I Do: How To’s”

Our June coordinator’s luncheon at the Colony House was a fabulous way to start the summer.  Not only did we have top notch vendors filling the room with a fresh summer citrus palette and relaxed atmosphere, we also had some expert presenters teach us a thing or two about how to improve and sharpen our planning skills.

Lavender’s flowers was the key to the event design.  Starting with shades of white, she pulled in tangerine, grapefruit and blood orange citrus along with foraged greenery and added a variety of texture.  24 Carrots created a menu that incorporated the design:  avocado and mixed green citrus salad with a meyer lemon vinaigrette, citrus mixers for the mimosa bar and a white chocolate citrus cake to finish the meal.  Each vendor’s interpretation of the design complimented one another and the outcome was perfection.

During the breakout sessions, we were dazzled by napkin folds, quick makeup fixes on our brides, how to create an emergency boutonniere,  phone lenses for better pictures at events and some of us caught on to tying a bow tie.  We have to give the award for creativity (and courage) to the 24 Carrot rappers who taught us to set a “table with flare.” Thank you so much for sharing your time and knowledge with us.

Thank you to all of the vendor sponsors and presenters.  Each of you are so appreciated:
